Among the Beasts & Briars, by Ashley Poston

Look, the people who are in love with this book aren't wrong. I just need to stop reading YA fantasy, because I'm a grumpy old fart who thinks teenagers are silly even though their feelings and dreams are actually perfectly fine and valid. Also, I've read enough fantasy by this point that my standards are unrealistically high. Not every book can be THE BLUE SWORD. AMONG THE BEASTS AND BRIARS has very creepy antagonists, and very poor bisexual 'representation' of the Disney, 'two minor characters kiss in the background and don't affect the plot' sort of way. Nevertheless, it sustained me on a road trip and was entertaining enough to finish.
