Even Though I Knew the End, by C. L. Polk

I'm not one for angels and demons, usually, but my god I do love a sapphic period piece. And the noir! The detectives with trench coats and pistols and cigarettes! The classy dames with perfect lipstick and deadly high heels!

This novella is beautifully written, salty and sweet. I'm not sure Even Though I Knew the End will stick with me... but it was so much fun that I was able to read it on a day when the temperatures in my house are approaching ninety actual degrees Fahrenheit. I read this book instead of laying down on the laundry room floor in front of the fan with an ice pack on my belly. And now that I've finished I think I'm going to do just that.
