Lightfall: La Última Llama, by Tim Probert

Lightfall is a super cute graphic novel with wildly fantastical world building and creatures. In a world without a sun, where the light in the sky comes from magically-constructed orbs that are failing one by one, a human girl who was adopted by a pig wizard becomes the carrier of the Last Flame. There are crabs the size of houses, a clever but amoral ratty thief, the last known survivor of a giant superstrong frog-ish species, a grumpy witch with a third eye on her forehead, shadow bird creatures who stalk the landscape looking for the Last Flame, and a quest to find a missing grandfather. Bea, our hero, uses a boomerang as a weapon. The whole thing is a delight.

I read the Spanish-language version of Lightfall, and judging by the varied languages in the Goodreads reviews there are a bunch of other translations out there, which makes it a great read for everyone from non-English speaking kids to adults learning a second language. I'm used to books in translation being kind of mid--at least the ones written at my level of Spanish--but this one is really great. I think I would have loved it in English for the interesting art and lovely story, and reading it in Spanish wasn't a struggle, so I found the whole experience really enjoyable.
