The Black God's Drums, by P. Djèlí Clark

Everyone who has already written glowing reviews of THE BLACK GOD'S DRUMS is correct: it's a lot of fun, vivid, creative, dramatic and punchy. My one complaint is that it's not long enough--there were a number of elements that I wanted to see in more detail and/or at greater length, in order to appreciate them.

In a book this short, it's easy to blink and miss things. For example, the privateer airship captain has a mechanical leg?? But it's just, like, a mention. We see it described. But we don't learn how the captain feels about it or how it's changed her; it's mostly cosmetic.

I would LOVE to see the version of this book that was three times as long! Or maybe a sequel? That would also be lovely.
